Your role

The Nordic controller oversees Nordic's accounting operations. We’re looking for someone who is detail oriented and will act like an owner to ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. You'll need to do what's right, ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local laws. You'll need to listen and make it about "we" as you supervise the accounts payable and fixed asset teams. If this sounds like you, here are a few things you’ll need:

  • Five or more years of supervisory experience

Full Job Description


This controller oversees Nordic’s accounting operations, including managing the day-to-day accounting, month-end closing, financial reporting, banking, tax, and external audits including maintaining regulatory and tax compliance.

Key Responsibilities

The controller's responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Directing account reconciliation and the preparation of consolidated financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and business line financial reporting
  • Managing and maintaining Nordic’s general ledger and revenue recognition
  • Supervising the accounts payable and fixed asset teams
  • Maintaining a documented system of internal controls, and accounting policies and procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable, federal, state, and local laws
  • Managing primary day-to-day banking activities, including cash deposits, compliance with debt covenants, initiating loan borrowing and payment transactions, as well as cash management  
  • Coordinating and overseeing preparation for, and supervision of, annual audit ensuring all appropriate adjustments are recorded in general ledger to accurately reflect financial results, and preparing notes to the audited statements
  • Monitoring federal and state tax developments while also working with outside tax advisors to develop strategies and policies to optimize Nordic’s tax efficiency while ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Overseeing all federal, state and local tax and regulatory filings/returns with assistance of outside tax advisors where necessary, while ensuring timely payments
  • Working on projects that may be assigned on an ad hoc basis and may assist other company initiatives as necessary, directed, assigned, or requested

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • 10+ years’ progressively responsible experience in a medium or large company required, experience in a services organization preferred
  • 5+ years’ supervisory experience
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Prior public accounting service is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting systems and GAAP regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent financial reporting, consolidation, analytical, critical thinking, and quantitative skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with accounting software and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal; proven ability to work effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail, and time management
  • Must demonstrate and embody Nordic’s maxims

Compensation and Additional Details

  • Position is located at our home office in Madison, WI
  • Occasional travel up to five percent of the time
  • Salary will be based on skills and experience
