- Giving employees the freedom to get involved in the organizations that best match their interests
Our passion extends well beyond what we do at Nordic to impact the communities we're a part of. See what we're doing to uphold our social responsibility and promote corporate citizenship in our areas.
We recognize the mutual benefit of a vibrant community and a thriving business. We support these efforts by:
Every year, for one week in May, we organize service projects across the country where employees donate their day to help a variety of non-profit organizations. Community Giveback Week has grown from a single day in Madison to an entire week of volunteer efforts across North America. In 2019, Nordic employees visited 12 organizations across five cities, including Madison, Chicago, Los Angeles, Neptune, N.J., and San Diego.
Highlights from 2019’s volunteer opportunities include landscaping a playground at RISE in Madison, sorting donations at the Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank in San Diego, serving dinner at Breakthrough’s Women's Center in Chicago, cleaning up Bradley Beach along the Jersey Shore, and volunteering with Share A Meal to roll and serve burritos to Los Angeles area citizens experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
Throughout the year, Nordic teammates make it about 'we' by coming together to support non-profits and other organizations in many different ways. Here's a look at just a few of those instances.
A group of Nordic employees visits The River Food Pantry every month to help prepare lunch or fill grocery carts for the pantry’s clients. We also collect food, toiletries, and other household items at the home office on an ongoing basis to donate to the pantry. The River is one the busiest food pantries in the Madison area, serving more than 1,000 households every week.
Each October, Nordic runs a fundraising campaign to support the United Way of Dane County and the programs they provide to families throughout the community.
This year, Nordic employees pledged a total of $25,140 to support this cause, exceeding last year’s pledges by almost $1,000. Also, employees came together in the home office to stuff paper packs consisting of toilet paper and paper towels. Together, we were able to pack 500 packs that were distributed to local communities in need.
Nordic has been heavily involved in Tri 4 Schools, a non-profit devoted to encouraging healthy, active kids and schools in Wisconsin through youth swimming, biking, and running events and programs that support school health and fitness initiatives.
We helped kick off the organization's Exercise for Achievement program at multiple Madison-area school sites and donated water bottles to each of the over 500 participants. We also helped to set up for the Waunakee Triathlon by sorting ribbons, stuffing participant swag bags, and setting up mats and flags for the biking and running courses.
We work with non-profit organizations in the areas of health and wellness to match our employees with initiatives that benefit from our healthcare and health IT expertise.
We sponsor a limited number of local and national organizations whose goals either align with improving preventative health (with a specific focus on food insecurity, education, and empowerment) or focus on the continual improvement of the healthcare IT industry. If you’d like to discuss opportunities to partner on these types of initiatives, drop us a line and we'll be in touch.
