Corporate Social RESPONSIBILITY

Supporting the communities in which we live and work

Our passion extends well beyond what we do at Nordic to impact the communities we're a part of. See what we're doing to do uphold our social responsibility and promote corporate citizenship in our areas.

Encouraging employee involvement in non-profit activities

We recognize the mutual benefit of a vibrant community and a thriving business. We support these efforts by

  • Giving employees the freedom to get involved in the organizations that best match their interests
  • Allowing employees to donate their time in a manner that works with their schedule (whether during the workweek or during free time)
  • Assisting with communication and organization around non-profit events
  • Sponsoring and helping promote select events with high employee involvement

Organizing a national Community Giveback Week

Every year, for one week in May, we organize service projects across the country where employees donate their day to help a variety of non-profit organizations. Community Giveback Week has grown from a single day in Madison to an entire week of volunteer efforts across the nation. In 2018, Nordic employees visited 11 organizations across five cities, including Madison, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and San Diego.

Highlights from 2018’s volunteer opportunities include building a playground at RISE in Madison, sorting donations at the Jacobs & Cushman Food Bank in San Diego, serving dinner to 35 men at Breakthrough’s transitional shelter in Chicago, volunteering at the American Heart Association Heart Walk in New York City, and spending time with residents of Hale House in Boston.

Donating our time

Throughout the year, Nordic teammates make it about 'we' by coming together to support non-profits and other organizations in many different ways. Here's a look at just a few of those instances.

River Food Pantry

A group of Nordic employees visits The River Food Pantry every month to help prepare lunch or fill grocery carts for the pantry’s clients. We also collect food, toiletries, and other household items at the home office on an ongoing basis to donate to the pantry. The River is one the busiest food pantries in the Madison area, serving more than 1,000 households every week.

United Way of Dane County

Each October, Nordic runs a fundraising campaign to support the United Way of Dane County and the programs they provide to families throughout the community.

This year, Nordic employees pledged a total of $24,194 to support this cause, exceeding last year’s pledges by almost $5,000. Also, 60 employees came together in the home office to decorate note cards and pack snack bags for children facing food insecurity. Together, we were able to pack 2,000 snack bags, which were distributed to local elementary schools, community centers, and food banks.

Tri 4 Schools

Nordic has been heavily involved in Tri 4 Schools, a non-profit devoted to encouraging healthy, active kids and schools in Wisconsin through youth swimming, biking, and running events and programs that support school health and fitness initiatives.

We helped kick off the organization's Exercise for Achievement program at multiple Madison-area school sites and donated water bottles to each of the over 500 participants. We also helped to set up for the Waunakee Triathlon by sorting ribbons, stuffing participant swag bags, and setting up mats and flags for the biking and running courses.

American Heart Association

In September, Nordic employees and their friends and family members participated in Madison’s American Heart Association Heart Walk. We also raised funds to donate to the American Heart Association.

Donating our expertise

We work with non-profit organizations in the areas of health and wellness to match our employees with initiatives that benefit from our healthcare and health IT expertise.

  • We worked alongside the HungerCare Coalition to promote the treatment of food insecurity as medical issue which could be tracked in electronic health records. We engaged the coalition to help with strategy and offer insight into productive approaches to working with health organizations.
  • Nordic partnered with the Urban League of Greater Madison and their Healthcare Administration Training Program to conduct mock interviews for local candidates. Nordic brought a number of representatives to assist in interviews and provide personalized feedback. We also presented interview tips and tricks geared for individuals interested in healthcare to help give the candidates additional resources to grow professionally.
  • Nordic partnered with Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care Facility on a pro bono basis to understand and identify changes within their Epic implementation that could make the biggest impact for both patients and clinicians. To learn more about this initiative, click here.
